British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths.

St Michael's connected Puffinschools World Book Day events and British Science Week.
We enjoyed finding out about Dr Sheila Kananis new book 'Can You Get Rainbows in Space?'and trying some experiments. We also drew brilliant brains with illustrator and comedian Henry Paker and learnt all about Princess Olivia Investigates: The Wrong Weather! with author Lucy Hawking.

Star Trek actor William Shatner (Captain Kirk) flies to space on-board Blue Origin's "New Shepard" rocket on 13th October 2021. He became the oldest person who has flown to space at age 90.

Flynn and Molly have been finding out about minibeasts and wanted to observe ladybirds more closely.

Ed has shared his instructions in case any of his classmates in Yr 5 would like to have a go at this experiment with their families.
Be sure to ask an adult to supervise you.
Get one (wine) glass
Add 3cm height veg oil
Then carefully add 1.5cm height water
Approx 10 drops food colour
Finally one fuzzy tablet/effervescant i.e.Alka seltza or vit C
We shone a torch on it too!

F. has done quite a few science experiments. He has tried to rip a piece of A4 paper as small as an atom (31 times) he has make marshmallow and spaghetti molecules (CO2 and H2O and had done some amazing chromatography! He learnt about pigments and how different pigments travel at different speeds and how we used the filter paper to separate them out. We have also show how colour food colouring mixes with water quicker when it is warm, rather than cold - because the atoms in the water are moving around quicker. - F.'s Mum
